Vision

Statement

I began my photography as a naturalist and pictorialist in mid 1990s. As I delved into the art and history of the medium, I was significantly influenced by Indian as well as western pictorialists. In the period spanning from 1999 through 2010, most of my work were in the pictorial style. The influence of 20th century icons like Ansel Adams was evident in my early landscapes and other compositions. Realizing this, I tried to find ways of expressing my individual vision by engaging more with my country, and its diverse topography and life, visualizing through an Indian eye. I worked in both colour and black and white.  As I moved gradually away from pictorialism by the turn of the first decade,  my interests shifted towards social and natural documentaries, photo-montages and abstraction. Even though my passion for nature and fine landscapes lingers, my predominant contemporary engagement is with conceptual photography.
