Vision

Statement

I began photography as a naturalist and pictorialist in the mid-1990s, after my stint with painting and graphic arts during the two preceding decades. In the beginning, I was significantly influenced by Indian as well as Western pictorialists. My attempt to find ways of expressing my individual vision by engaging more with my country, and its diverse topography and life, found me working with an Indian eye ever after. I worked both in color and black and white. Later my interests moved towards social and natural documentaries, photo-montages and abstraction. Even though my passion for nature and fine landscapes lingers, my predominant contemporary engagement is with conceptual, photo-based art. I create small, medium & large-format archival pigment prints in my home-studio, which are later subjected to process-based manipulations like over-painting, pigment toning, and physical alterations.
