Statement

Every individual finds an outlet for their emotions. As an Indian who was fed from childhood with the grace of the Indian Golden Light, my mode of self expression gradually evolved from drawing to painting and then to photography. As an artist and naturalist I recognised my duty of documenting Nature with the sincerity of realism and the creativity of impressionism. Every visual generates two questions within me: Is this worth documenting for the appraisal by myself and others? Is this worth as raw material for creating a work of art? If the answer for any of the questions is YES, I photograph. Whole of my art is driven by my love for Nature, passion for beauty and respect for Humanity.

I serve the world  through my Art
and I serve me through the moments I spend with myself creating my Self.

Every element in Nature is brimming with emotion
ready to overflow into our senses.
Keep the doors open…it flows in
the wind…the wood…the rocks…the roses…

Easy is the creation if all are beautiful.
But, it demands pains if they are ugly.
But, the inner spirit is the same, always.
Creator is the one who makes pretty images
from the spiritual core of his ugly subjects.

My friend, who lives beyond oceans, told me once:
“There is a secret that exists in everything.”
How true it is!
Expose that secret!
Remove cloths to expose the secrets of skin…
Remove the skin to expose blood…
and, then, the Soul …the Self!

While making an image,
I take a few responsive elements
from the imagery around me,
rearrange them through the viewfinder
or on the canvas.
Now it is almost similar to a constellation of celestial bodies
with certain patterns, forms and spaces.
It becomes MY art when, at the end,
I add a bright star from my self.
(Often, regretfully, I fail to add that star!
It is somebody's art then! )

Events appear strange
just because we do not know everything at all.
People appear strange
just because we do not know everyone always.
At times art appear strange, too,
because we are just not familiar with all the ways
of how intelligence and imagination perform!
But the secret is the same!
EMOTION
Art is just a waste
if it does not evoke emotion within you.

And, interestingly,
You are a waste if art fails at you!

............................

I was born in a small village,
the images of which have always been an obsession
in the years of separation from home.
Now I have again settled in the same old village,
realizing the indelible marks on her face,
and mine too,
inflicted by man and Time.

The flow of my thoughts was influenced by many a thing,
by those which moulded my very self:
the childhood friendships;
symbols and images of the childhood;
the simplicity of the village;
and, in lonely nights, the consoling ragaas of Indian music.

Events have been evocative,
yet the emotions remained fluid.
But now , at least I feel that everything has begun to solidify.
Lines were rigid ropes and colors stagnant streams.
Now I feel the flexibility and mobility.
Fish swim beneath and birds fly above.
The dreams turn vivid and uncertainties fade.

There are many a thing that we look at,
mostly without seeing it.
There are many that we see,
but without enjoying it.
There are still few things that we reproduce
after enjoying it.
Most often things that we reproduce fail
to make others rejoice!
Then what is left?
There has to be bright stars among the dim ones.

I present some of the visuals I have enjoyed
either while sitting idle in the backyard of my home,
or while making tiring trips from place to place,
or while walking with my girl on the banks of a moonlit river,
or while.....

These are born from the same womb,
either through lines or through the lens.
The pain and pleasure I share....
I share with you.
